When it first released in the year 2006, not many had given a comedy directed by Rohit Shetty, featuring action star Ajay Devgan much of a chance. What compounded the matter was the slow start and so the film was dismissed. But what a turnaround! The film showed great legs and netted close to 27-28 crores and it turned out to be Ajay's major hit as a comedy star.
We are obviously referring to GOLMAAL. What followed was GOLMAAL RETURNS in 2008 and the multi-starrer turned out to be an even bigger hit and Ajay had arrived as a comedy star.
Some may wonder why we are not mentioning the team's last laugh riot, ALL THE BEST. Well, even though the similarities were obvious, the makers never tried to sell it off as a GOLMAAL franchise and moreover it was not a major success unlike the other two; GOLMAAL and GOLMAAL RETURNS.
As is known this Diwali will see the release of GOLMAAL 3 and the know alls of film business predict another success for the Ajay-Shetty team. They even say that GOLMAAL is now a brand name and so the audience will naturally look forward to some pure wholesome entertainment from the film as in the past.
Well, here's wishing a third triumph for the GOLMAAL team!
It is by now well known that this Diwali will see Rohit Shetty's GOLMAAL 3 taking on Vipul Shah's ACTION REPLAYY and we are not here to inform you about that. Actually it's really an action replay of last Diwali where the two leading men of the two respective films Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar took each other through ALL THE BEST and BLUE.

As may be recalled the initial weekend battle was convincingly won by BLUE as it netted 20 crores as opposed to 10 crores by ALL THE BEST. But after that due to the positive word of mouth and good reviews , the Ajay Devgn starrer had a very stable run while the collections of the Akshay film crashed .
However, while BLUE turned out to be a big failure it did manage to spoil ALL THE BEST's party by taking away its audience in the initial holiday weekend period. Eventually both the film ended up netting around 41- 42 crores from India but due to a reasonable price (as opposed to the huge costs of BLUE), ALL THE BEST managed to get a successful tag but just about! In fact BLUE makers could have easily said - Khud doobey, Sanam ko bhi le doobey!
On a serious note, this year it will definitely be a more interesting battle as both Ajay-Rohit and Akshay-Vipul have a successful track record to boast of. Here is hoping for a double blast this Diwali.
